Despite the fact that we don't really have a story for our film opening yet, we all agreed to make it funny and comedyish. As Nora and I are exchange students from Germany, we noticed that there are quite a few differences between our country and England which we could use for our film. We also thought that the kind of "language barrier" and the difficulties with the English language we had in the beginning might be something we could play with. During our discussion we came up with a list of things we experienced in terms of differences between England and Germany:
Tea (not that popular in Germany, and - unlike in England - you can't buy it in German McDonald's)
Christmas (you get your presents in the morning of the 25th if you live in England; in Germany it is the evening of the 24th)
Driving (Germans drive on the right)
Cards (in England you send them for every occasion, in Germany it is quite uncommon to send cards)
Teaching styles (English teachers are not that strict with sixth formers, don't give a lot of work... generally very very different from teachers in Germany!)
School uniforms (we neither have school uniforms nor dress codes)
During our media lesson today we collected some ideas for our two minutes film opening. The main thing we focused on was the genre. After having had a discussion about the genre of spoofs, we came to the conclusion that spoofs might be a too difficult thing to do as we would need a lot of equipment which we can't afford. For that reason we decided not to do a costume drama either because it would require quite a big amount of probs which we don't have. At the end of the lesson, everyone agreed with the idea of doing some sort of teen drama. To get an idea of this particular genre, we researched some famous teen dramas on youtube and found "Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging" which deals with typical teen problems such as boys, parents and parties.
